Removing Autoimmune Triggers for Hashimoto’s
When there are food sensitivities already going on in the body to such things as gluten and iodine, it can trigger an autoimmune response. This is because the immune system believes these foods are trying to attack it and it lashes out. When there are food allergies, they need to be removed from the diet to avoid any further triggers.
Anytime foods are removed from your diet, however, you run the risk of not getting all of the vitamins and nutrients your organs need to operate on a normal level. Healthy bacteria is found in a lot of foods that can help your body to digest certain types of foods. This is when it can be helpful to introduce probiotics into the diet.
Probiotics are basically altered levels of beneficial bacteria that your body needs. There are over 400 types of probiotics in your body right now. You can take supplements in the form of a liquid, powder, or tablet. When you have the right probiotics, you also won’t be without the digestive enzymes that you need.
Beyond food, other triggers that can set Hashimoto’s off is estrogen, environmental toxins and infectious agents. A fluctuation in estrogen can trigger the gene expression of the autoimmune disease. This is especially true when it is present because of inflammation and genetics. The genes that are associated with Hashimoto’s will turn on. When there is a high level of estrogen, it can also increase the level of attack that occurs on the thyroid, leading to a variety of problems. Hashimoto’s is commonly associated with pregnancy because of how much the estrogen levels can increase. I recently did a video that goes into more detail about hormones and the thyroid
Environmental toxins are a trigger as well. This is the case with all autoimmune diseases and Hashimoto falls into this category. In particular, plastics- Bisphenol A, Flouride, Bromide, Aflatoxins, LPS bacterialtoxins, and heavy metals can take a toll on your body. In the event that you are suffering from these toxins, it is important to schedule a chemical haptens test, which will also test for heavy metal antibodies. We offer this test through our office.
Reducing Inflammation fromHashimoto’s
In order to reduce inflammation, the body needs to be restored to a natural balance. Essential fatty acids are critical when preventing as well as reducing inflammation. Omega-6 and Omega-3 fatty acids need to be consumed. The ideal ratios are between 1:1 and 3:1. The reason that many people suffer from inflammation is because processed and refined foods often escalate the ratios to 25:1 and higher.
The best way to get the body back into balance is by drastically reducing the intake of Omega-6 fats and increasing the consumption of Omega-3 fats. Taking a supplement of Omega-4 fatty acids can also help to balance out the Th1 and Th2 systems.
